The Department of Health Sciences (DiSS) conducts intensive research activities, ranging from basic research on the pathogenetic mechanisms of diseases to the development of biomaterials and innovative diagnostic and therapeutic technologies. The excellence and multidisciplinarity of the research characterize DiSS, spanning from basic to applied research, certified by numerous projects funded by significant national and international institutions.
DiSS boasts the excellence of 63 professors and researchers in the following research areas:
- Pathogenetic mechanisms of complex and genetic diseases
- Applied Clinical Research
- Innovative Therapies
- Cellular and Gene Therapy
- Development of preclinical disease models
- Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering, and Regenerative Medicine
- Innovative strategies in the diagnostic-therapeutic field
- Particle Physics
Researchers at DiSS are supported in their research activities by doctoral students in Medical Sciences and Biotechnologies, as well as those in Food, Health, and Longevity Studies.
The Department serves as a link between the university's structures dedicated to clinical, diagnostic, chemical/pharmaceutical, and biological/environmental research. A pivotal element for the development of activities is the Center of Excellence for Autoimmune Diseases, which, in coordination with the new Health City of Novara, aims to become a national and international reference point.
The Department has a strong international vocation; its professors are involved in important European and non-European research networks, attracting numerous international students. Additionally, it relies on a substantial number of visiting professors with a great scientific reputation from around the world.
